January's theme SHAPES week 5

Ok this is the last week for our SHAPE theme. February we will be starting a new theme with new photo ideas. Remember you can post as many photos as you like in the comments just as long as they pertain to the theme. The more photos the better. :)

I almost didn't think this photo was going to happen. It was raining the entire day, and then towards the end of the day the sun finally poked it's head through the clouds. I had actually intended on taking photos of what I thought were some geometric fountains and sculptures near by, but either my memory is bad, or they changed the sculptures since I was there last. So I went with my 2nd choice which was this building with its many rectangular windows, and the curvy landscaping out front.

Sorry about the late post friends.   Edie came down with a really bad flu bug that knocked her out for most of last week.

Here are the photos we came up with for our 4th week of SHAPE.   We have ONE more week left with this theme.  Are you enjoying finding shapes near you?

January's Theme: SHAPES Week 3

We are 3 weeks into the new year already and we are 3 weeks into our first theme of the year. Have you been having fun looking for shapes? Did you turn up any interesting or unique shapes near you? Can't wait to see what you have found.

Ok I finally went on a walk, but it was a brief one. I had lost track of time and realized that the sun was going down in 30 minutes so I ran over to the local park to see what kind of shapes were there. Parks with playground sets are great places to find interesting shapes.

This is a picture of a spiral pole slide thing. I actually laid on the ground, got myself mostly under the thing, and shot the picture looking up at the sky. I think the kids in the park thought I was crazy but hey I just had to get the shot. :) I wish my depth of field would have been more "in focus" but unfortunately there wasn't too much light left in the day so I had to open my aperture up as big as it could go, which then cuts down on the depth of field that is in focus. This was taken as ISO 3200. My camera can go higher, but then I start getting a grainy appearance so I try to avoid pushing it any further.

Corinna's Photo: I think this wall has a lot of interesting shapes. If you look at it one second, you can see a butterfly or flower, but if you look again you can see a circle, and then there are lots of individual shapes making up the larger ones.

January's Theme: SHAPES Week 2

Well it looks like some of you are playing along with us! We really enjoy looking at everyone's take on the theme, so keep them coming.

This week is week 2 for our SHAPE theme. Don't worry if you didn't get a chance to post your photo last week. Remember this is a month long theme. You can post a new photo every week, or you can post a new photo every two weeks or you can post one once a month. You can even post two photos in the same week. It's whatever works best for you.

Ok I will admit, the weekend got away from me and before I could blink Monday was here and I still had not taken any photo yet. Luckily we still have our Christmas decorations up and I was able to use some of those as props for some possible "shape" photos. This one is a set of jingle bells that we have hanging from our front door. Once again I took out my trusty old macro lens for this shot. I'm going to try next week to do a non-macro shot. I promise.

 My dear old dad stopped by this morning on his way home from work (he works night shift) and drank a beer. Well, I never cleaned up the bottle and later in the afternoon I noticed the sun streaming through the window and lighting the bottle up and thought it was kinda cool so decided to use that as my SHAPE photo!

January's theme: SHAPES Week 1

Here it is.. the first MONTH long theme for 2011 for Sunday Shutterbugs. (you can go here to read more about the changes) This month the theme is SHAPES.


There are shapes ALL around us both indoors and outdoors. They can be soft or hard. They can be square or round. They can be man made or something you find in nature. All you need to do is find some that look interesting and post one.

Don't forget this is a MONTH long theme. So even if you post one this week you can come back and post a new totally different SHAPE photo next week.


Can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Oh... and make sure you post something in the comments that directs us to your photo. For some reason we can't use Mr Linky the same way we did last year.

I had every intention of going on a nice long walk and finding some shapes near my home. However just as I stepped out my door it started raining. Luckily I have this plate that is right outside so I stayed in the rain for 5 minutes taking some photos. The cool thing is that since this is a month long theme I can still go on that walk in the next week and see what other shapes I can come up with.

New Year! New Set of Shutterbug Challenges

Well as you can see it has been awhile since Corinna and I posted anything to this site. It's not because we didn't want to, though. Life just got a bit busy for us the last month of the year so we decided to take a little break from the blog and spent the time focusing on our families and all the necessary holiday stuff.

Now that the holidays are over and a new year is upon us, Corinna and I are ready to start posting challenges to Sunday Shutterbugs again. This year, however, we are changing things up. First of all, we are not going with an A-Z theme anymore. The A-Z themes were fun, but to be honest there were a few letters where it was just dang hard to come up with something. Also, some of the themes were very limiting in terms of what we can do, and we know if they were limiting us, they must also be limiting to you guys as well.

The other thing we are changing up is the length of time for each theme. You would think that one week would be a long enough time period to take ONE theme picture, and on some occasions it was just enough time to complete the theme. However because of our jobs, our families, the weather, the shorter winter days there were many weeks we found ourselves scrambling until the very end and ending up with only a couple of decent shots. Then there were weeks where we wish the theme could have continued longer because the theme was so broad or so inspiring, that it was tough to narrow it down to just one photo. In general we just needed more time.

Therefore, from here on out Shutterbugs is doing MONTH LONG themes! Corinna and I will pick a nice general theme to do every month. The themes can be anything, it's just a matter of whatever floats our boat for the month, but the themes will be very broad with plenty of possibilities. We will still be posting photos every WEEK, and we will still be posting a NEW photo every SUNDAY. So this means that we each will be posting a total of 4 photos relating to the theme.

Hopefully this change will give us (and you) a chance to really play with the theme and explore the possibilities, and make it so it's easier for everyone to participate. :)

We happened to drive past a new windmill farm that went on for miles and miles in either direction and I thought they were beautiful. But I really thought they were beautiful when we passed them again in the evening just as the sun was setting.
